iPhone Photography – An Interview With Rad Drew

I have a lot of photography friends.  As I am sure you will agree you have to like photography to get what photography means to crazy people like all of us.  Some people just don’t get it.  One of my good friends who lives close by and does get it is Rad Drew.  Rad is a frequent contributor to photo PXL.  He’s truly a nice guy and a creative person too.  Rad retired a few years ago from a great corporate job and has now dedicated himself to photography and particularly photography with the iPhone.

If you are a regular reader you know by now how much I believe in what the iPhone can do for our photography.  The iPhone today, especially the iPhone 11 Pro Max is incredible too.  I just recently published an indepth article about this camera/phone.  While it will not replace my other cameras it does compliment them.  I have a phone with me all the time that is very capable of delivering an image with file quality good enough to print out to 17×22.

Rad and I occasionally go out shooting together. We enjoy exploring areas that are not too far from where we live and more than anything else we enjoy having a lively conversation about all aspects of photography.  It was on one of those trips after a great conversation on photography that I suggested Rad should come to my house and do an interview where two guys sit down and talk about how we shoot with our iPhone.

The Video (26:04)

The conversation Rad and I had was somewhat longer than is presented here but I think this edited video gives you a lot to think about and possibly explore.

You can visit Rad’s website to see more about what he does.  He offers tutorials as well as workshops and a lot of other good content.  We’ll be exploring more with Rad throughout the year.

Photography is my passion and has been for 50 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of picture taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can, hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through photoPXL.com, this site, as well as Rockhopper Workshops, and other projects, as well as teaching as Artist In Residence at the Indianapolis Art Center.
