Roberts Camera Gallery Night – Kevin Raber Is The Judge

As many of you know Roberts Camera is my go-to place in Indianapolis for everything photographic. I have featured Roberts Camera numerous times on this site in a Conversation With Meredith Reinker at Roberts Camera, I Went To The The Camera Store, Get It Used – Used Photo Pro as well as our On The Rock Series.

Roberts has been an institutional feature of Indianapolis for decades. Over the last number of years, Roberts has featured a very popular event, Gallery Night. It’s a photo competition and the winners are displayed for all to see at Gallery Night where hundreds of visitors pour into the store to see the winning images and network and socialize with other photographers.
Like many things in 2020 holding a live in-person event like Gallery Night is just impossible with the pandemic being such a part of our lives. And, like many things this year in an effort to continue the tradition the event will be held virtually with the premier virtual event Today, Friday, August 7th, 2020 at 6 PM Eastern US time.
I was honored and privileged to be the judge for this year’s event. I went through thousands of images and narrowed them down into six categories with 20 finalists in each category. It was a lot of work but a ton of fun too. I love looking at photos and seeing so many incredible images by so many talented photographers was a real pleasure. I’m sure you will feel the same as you join us for this hour-long event.
Premiere Night

Join us tonight as we share with you the finalists, winners in each category as well as the overall winner. The event is sponsored by Olympus Camera and Mike Amico will join us as part of the event. Meredith Reinker from Roberts along with Juan Flores of Roberts will be joining me as we announce the finalists and winners for this year.
The link below with go live at 6 PM and you can join the event. If you can’t make it at lunacy the video will be available from the start at any time. So, grab a beer or whatever you fancy and enjoy an hour of some great photography.
BONUS: At Eight o’clock on Friday, August 7th, we will publish another article here on photoPXL with Kevin’s Print Critique. This is another roughly one hour video where I look at a few of the images that were submitted and do a critique using Capture One. I will show how I would crop, and make adjustments as well as explain why the image didn’t necessarily make the final cut and what it would have taken to push the image over the edge. Check it out.
The Video (This video will go live at 6 PM)
Closing
Thank you for being part of the Roberts Gallery Event Night. All of us wish we could have done this in person and hopefully next year we can. I want to give a big thank you to Michael Durr, photoPXL’s video producer for doing such a great job with these videos. Michael always comes through in a pinch and never compromises the quality of the work.
Please stay safe and I hope have enjoyed the event.

Photography is my passion and has been for5 0 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of picture taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can, hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through photoPXL.com, this site, as well as Rockhopper Workshops, and other projects, as well as teaching as Artist In Residence at the Indianapolis Art Center.
