Happy Thanksgiving 2023

From Our Family To Yours

It’s been another year of challenges.  No matter what, though, I am thankful to be doing what I love and surrounded by a strong and loving family.

Debra and I are going to one of our family members for Thanksgiving dinner, and I look forward to it.  We don’t have to do anything but bring a dish (with something in it).  That means no running around cleaning the house and buying food for the big dinner.  It’s good because I am in the final days of office and home time before heading off to Antarctica on Sunday for a few weeks.

I couldn’t resist

After twenty-some trips to Antarctica, I am pretty good at prepping and packing.  My camera gear is all together.  Look for a video soon on what I am taking.  I have all my polar clothes neatly packed away, so getting them out and packing shouldn’t be any big deal.  I’ll miss being home.  I’ll be gone until the 12th of December, and even though that’s only a few weeks, I’ll miss home.  I’m sure my dog, Maggie, my constant companion, and our three cats, Ansel, Jupiter, and Nova, will miss me.  It’s always fun to come home and be greeted by Maggie and the cats, so I have something to look forward to.  Maggie usually comes to the airport when Debra comes and gets me.  She gets so excited when she sees me.

Over the holiday, I will take some time to reflect on the past year.  I am most thankful for having a studio at the Indianapolis Art Center.  I have been there just a little over a year now. The Art Center is full of good energy, and we have held numerous print workshops there.  We are planning more for 2024. I will also teach several different photo courses there next year.

I am looking forward to heading back to Antarctica on Sunday.  My last visit was in 2020, two weeks before the world shut down.  I’ll have an article soon on what camera gear I am taking to Antarctica, and you can expect a follow-up story on my return.

I want to thank the team at photoPXL for hanging in there with me.  Chris, Debra, Jeff, Mark, Harvey, Alain, and all the regular article contributors, thank you so much.  I am most thankful for all our regular readers.  PhotoPXL has seen good growth in visitors over the last year, and it seems to be climbing.  I’ll have more to say about the site and the future soon. My dream is to build this into a strong photo community.

Please have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. If you have a little time, go out and take some pictures.

Photography is my passion and has been for 50 plus years. My career in photography has allowed me to travel the world, meet some of the most interesting people on the planet and see things I could never have dreamed of. My goal is to share the passion of picture taking through photographs and teaching with as many people as I can, hoping it brings them as much joy and happiness as it has me. I do this through photoPXL.com, this site, as well as Rockhopper Workshops, and other projects, as well as teaching as Artist In Residence at the Indianapolis Art Center.
