Wow!  I grew up Miller, which is the lakefront eastern part of Gary, IN.  Indiana Dunes (now) National Park has parcels in Miller.  I used to run barefoot in the sand to/from the Westbeach area – many years ago, understand.  Your article brought back many memories – bonfire parties on the beach, sailing on my Dad’s Thistle (a class of sailboat), hiking the dunes, bodysurfing in the lake … all with the Chicago skyline on the distant horizon.  I need to get back there now that I have a decent long lens (Sony GM 100-400mm).  You’ve inspired me!
