Several months ago I was thinking about changing my Nikon D810 for a lighter (mirrorless) camera. In the end I waited until the new Canon RF cameras were announced to see if they may meet my needs. In the end I bought a Sony A7R4 because it had 2 slots and a long lens 100-400 that I could both afford and carry. I am sure that the Canon 100-500 is superb but Oh the cost and weight especially as I am not really interested in wildlife photography. Here are 3 images from a long planned trip to Northern Scotland that we managed between lockdowns.

Rogie Falls from the Black Water river North of Inverness

    Rogie Falls

Wailing Widow Falls from Assynt North West Scotland

    DSC3840-1-merge-1600

    Fairy Glen Northern Scotland

    DSC4825-1-white-stroke

So far so good but I have lots to learn with the 100-400 lens as even in cold weather heat shimmer is a real problem when photographing long distance landscapes and even with a fairly heavy Gitzo tripod wind vibrates the lens so lots more experimenting. Ken

Lovely, Ken, particularly the first. You’ve taken the leap to the A7Riv that I’ve been dithering over for nearly a year now (although mine will be from a Canon 5Ds). Are you happy? (reply privately if you like).

Great images.  I want to live there.  Jeremy has been talking about the Sony a7riv forever.  He just needs to get it.

Love the first one as well! Great image!

I just picked up a Fuxi XF 100-400 yesterday, good Black Friday sale that I couldn’t pass – can’t wait to get it and take it out.

All being well, I’ll have it when I see you in the Faroes, Kevin.
