There is an interesting (to me) webinar on B&W conversion using Lightroom, in the Leica Akademie series at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIwqOxWZJe4
This includes using HSL to change individual colours and how they translate into B&W. Does anyone know of similar hints and tips to help with the process?
Best wishes,
Jonathan

Re: B&W ConversionReply #3 on: January 17, 2024 at 5:05 amNick does a decent job of explaining a lot of the fundamentals of B&W photography and the art involved but stops short of offering much in the way of the power of Lightroom/ACR color>B&W conversions…he also seems a bit afraid of local adjustments…he said he doesn’t really use the Adjustment Brush much…too bad for him that he’s leaving image quality on the table by not deploying the full range to tools the apps have. Also note that the tutorial was from 3 years ago, before Lightroom/ACR got the really major upgrades on local adjustments mask creation…heck, he didn’t even mention the TAT tool for adjusting the colors sliders in the B&W conversion 😱

Re: B&W ConversionReply #4 on: January 17, 2024 at 2:31 pmThanks Jeff for your comments. I have looked up Andrew’s suggestions earlier in this thread and watched your session with Kevin and it is really useful. It is now bookmarked!

Re: B&W ConversionReply #5 on: January 17, 2024 at 5:45 pmLuLa’s old Camera to Print Tutorial has a long segment on this. It is ancient (LR 3) but worth a look/listen for the detailed explanation Jeff & Michael give of the principles involved in converting to B&W from colour.
