I haven’t been inside but I wouldn’t expect it to be too spectacular. But it’s got an interesting history: It was built in the 17th century on the foundation of a cellar from the 16th century. It has since served as a present from the count of Darmstadt to his favourite lady, as a storage room for fire wood, as a hospital, and since its renovation in 1976, the basement is the home of the Darmstadt Jazz Club while the upper two levels are now home to the Darmstadt concert choir and the Darmstadt festival of classical music.

The Octagon House is situated right within a densly populated residential area in the city center, hence there is not much space around it to give it room to breath in the image, hence the square crop.

I have printed this both on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic and Photo Rag 308, and while Metallic is of course interesting, I actually like it better on 308.

I’m intrigued by the lines of light in the water. They don’t seem to be reflections of anything visible. What are they?

There is no water. 🙂 Or is that a joke I don’t get? Sometimes humor (!) can be quite difficult to catch in a foreign language. 🙂

Sorry, Erik – I didn’t intend a joke. I thought the slightly shiny areas in the lower left were water, with reflected lights.

Ah, I see what you mean. It’s a gravel pathway around the building. Several street lanterns shine different intensities on different portions of that pathway.
