A fine shot of an abomination. Good shooting, Paul.

Thanks, Russ. I actually like the look of the windmills. Certainly much better than a bunch of smoke belching stacks. Not saying they should put them in Big Bend, but there are huge areas of Texas that are just plain ugly, and the windmills don’t have then stench coming from the drilling operations that cover the area.

We’re never going to agree on the aesthetic value of windmills, Paul. But we might be able to agree on the unfortunate piles of dead birds they produce.

We have two windmills close to our village. Rated power sufficient to feed our 15K people. I prefer them over a nuclear or coal power plant. I actually find it beautiful when they are rotating. Yes, dead birds are sad, but…

The 2nd was just having its rotor mounted.

I agree the loss of birds are unfortunate, but the loss of the planet would be worse. I know it’s an illusion that they appear to be moving so slowly, but somehow the birds manage to get out of the way of my speeding Tesla. I wish they could figure out the windmills. Maybe our old friend evolution with solve that and favor birds more skilled at avoiding the blades.

Until you get up close to the blades you just don’t realize how big they are. It’s not uncommon on I-20 through west Texas to encounter one being transported on the highway. Someday I’ll have time to google how the trucks carrying them turn, once they’re off the Interstate, to deliver the blades to their destination.

Had to use iPhone screen shots for these images as the dialog wouldn’t allow me to scale down the original images.
