    Hello,

I have had my MBP 16 2021 64GB now for 3 years, and would probably get a couple more from it. I do like it a lot, and since I bought it I stopped calibrating my secondary monitor, a 27 in Dell Ultrasharp as I just used it as a Browser, while the MBP, although limited in real estate, had the great XDR display. The Dell is now 7 years old, and the colors needed calibrating. I bought out my old Xrite Display Profiler and felt like I woke up from a long nap. The software did not work, and Xrite was now Calibrate. Clearly, I need new technology.

I use Canon r5, 100-500, 70-200, 28-70, 11-24, 100 mm etc with half a dozen studio lights. So plenty of good tech to work with along with Capture One, Topaz, Affinity, Final Cut Pro  etc that I have had for years. But I need a new monitor/calibrator and I have no clue what the current technology provides.

So distinguished pros, what would you recommend. At 81, this would be my last monitor – maybe another laptop if I hang around long enough.

    Enjoy your weekend,

    Best,

I recd an email wherein they offered me a loyalty discount for Subscription..

    Currently they have a 30% off on subscription of $179 = $125

So I was able to switch to subscription for $89.50 / annual + tax.  I cannot figure their math, but that is what it was

What really matters is whether the software has the features and can deliver the quality most important to you, once you learn how to use it. Whether it’s “boring”, or “beautiful” whatever those things mean, to me would be quite beside the point. But of course “chacun à son goût”. You are of course correct in saying proficiency matters, but one can become proficient with any product provided its design allows for that, and I would say Lightroom and other raw converters do. One more factor is simply comfort with what one is most accustomed to, and that I think drives lots of choice.

Btw, I did enjoy your book on scanning workflows for Silverfast 8. I used an Epson Perfection V850 to convert thousands of film photos to digital. Is there a later edition for Silverfast 9? I did get one from the author of the software.

I am aware of what is involved in software design owning a cybersecurity platform currently deployed in over 20 countries with millions of users.

I used Lightroom for several years, and now for a long time Capture One. The nutty license options turned me off, and reading eminent photographers extoll Lightroom, I took another look.

    Boring…

But then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What really matters is how proficient one is with the software to get the most out of it. I will pay what I have to and stay with C1 and Affinity.
