Out here on the wet coast, especially in winter we can get very high (and very low) tides known as King Tides, and very high winds.
Went out to the beach earlier in the week to make some images… nothing quite like the feeling of being beaten about the head by your own camera strap. Forget the tripod.
Sorted the collected images down to 9; here are three. The first two are my favourites and the third one is Marcia’s.

Re: Winter StormReply #1 on: January 17, 2020 at 5:32 pmI shot on A at low ISO for most of the day. In order to try to catch the waves I switched to S, at 1/8000. Unfortunately, with the low light, etc. this pushed the ISO up to 8-10K and introduced a lot of both luminance and colour noise. I made a couple of grayscale images, barely salvageable:
Live and learn…

My last image of the day was when a rogue wave swamped both me and the camera. Fortunately a heating vent, some alcohol and Q-Tips were able to resurrect it.
