This is from William Neill: http://www.williamneill.com/blog/index.php/2020/01/my-favorite-photographs-of-2019/

In his post he asks for links to others’ retrospectives so I thought I’d ask here as well. What are your favourite images of 2019? How do you determine best?

Marcia and I shot a little over 10K images in 2019; I realize that’s a drop in the bucket for some, and a number of those were for composites (HDR, image stacks, panoramas, focus stacks…). Still, there’ s always one image that stands out for me.

Living as we do in the capital of BC, the Lieutenant Governor of BC (the Queen’s representative for the province) also lives here. Every year on New Year’s Day Government House hosts a levée and Marcia and I go there then wander the grounds making images of the flowers in bloom. Not such  a stretch for someone in Alabama, but this is still Canada after all.

Before we head out we always head out onto the back patio and I make an image of Marcia with my phone (it’s a tradition). It’s always my favourite image of the year.

    Mike.

    Mike,

I think the most gratifying aspect of my photography is creating my best of the year collection.  I haven’t been travelling that far from home, but still shot about 8000 images over the year.  What I like about this process is that I need to really look at what I shot and look at it at different times, not just after a shoot.

Wow….Impressive and a great idea except I just haven’t found the time.  Time seems to be in short supply as I get this site and some others up and running.  Funny how fast the hours slip by in a day.  Which is a good thing since I am having fun?

No excuses though.  I should get working on my favorite and get them posted.

Some very good work, Hugh. Thanks for sharing them! Looking forward to seeing yours, Kevin. We create a photo calendar for friends and family every year; for 2019 we made about 10K images. I got them down to about 100 or so, and then Marcia picked one for each month. Our calendars are organized in such a way that the image for January 2020 is from those made in January, 2019, etc. So those are among our favourites, but only those that are landscape and can be cropped 4×5.

Here are a couple I don’t think I’ve shared here:
