    Hello all,

I am since days with the Capture One Support ongoing, because as soon as I use the repair brush in catalogs or sessions the complete Mac Mini (Intel i7, 16GB RAM) crashes, after it first freezes.

In the meantime we have deleted C1 (v22 latest version) 2x completely and reinstalled again, according to Capture One instructions, without success.

If I open the same session under Windows 11 everything runs smoothly and I can use the repair brush!

Has by chance someone also had the problem and how was it solved?

    Oliver

I tried the heal brush and the clone brush and they both worked fine on my iMac Pro.  I also tried it my MacBook Pro and it worked fine.  I just moved my studio and don’t have my mini set up yet so I wasn’t able to try it on it.  I did it in a catalog with 73022 images.

    Version 15.4.0.22

Sorry I couldn’t be any more help.  I have the beta of C1 23 and I’ll try that out tomorrow.

    Hello Kevin,

thanks for your feedback and the short test on your Macs. On my Mac Mini (Intel i7) it is completely independent whether I use the repair brush on a catalog with 140,000 photos or a session with 10 photos, in both cases the Mac Mini freezes and reboots after a while. The whole thing also leads every time to the fact that the Dock subsequently no longer works and I have to drive a maintanance run.

If I load the session on a Windows 11 machine (AMD CPU) or my MacBook Air (M1), the session runs without problems and there is no crash of the system.

Although I don’t have any other problems with the Mac Mini (Intel i7) and every other software runs inconspicuously, I’m gradually tending to completely rework the Mac Mini (Intel i7). I would have liked to spare myself that, since I’ve been waiting for a Mac Mini with M2 CPU and 32GB RAM for a while, but unfortunately it hasn’t become reality yet.

In this respect, it would be an attempt to reset the Mac Mini (Intel i7) and see if the error still occurs. If so … :((.

… after I would have had to completely reinstall the Mac Mini (Intel i7), I changed my mind at short notice and ordered a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Actually, I wanted to skip the M1 and wait for the M2 but the Mac Mini i7 was now with macOS Monterey arrived at the end of support and since I had now no desire to reinstall everything again and reoriented me at short notice. I assume that the problem with the repair brush as the trigger of the action is then also solved.

… my new Mac Mini M1 arrived and I transferred the whole data, then first connected a monitor and opened C1 with one of the sessions, where the i7 always crashed immediately as soon as the repair brush was used.

And lo and behold, with the M1 it is like with my Macbook Air and with the Windows 11 machine no problem to work with the repair brush, no crash. Indeed a strange phenomenon, especially since it affected C1 exclusively on the i7 Mac Mini.

However, I now have a lot of work ahead of me because unfortunately Apple has saved a lot of interfaces to the M1 or changed to Thunderbold 3, so that many things now no longer fit and I have to look at how I get it all working again with other cables and adapters.

The problem with the repair brush seems to be out of the world :), after all. In addition, the computer is now upgradeable again, because the i7 was with Monterey at the end of the life cycle arrived.

    Hello Chris,

I use a normal Microsoft USB mouse but in fact also a Wacom Intuos tablet and that – or the driver – was also suspected and so I had uninstalled it to rule that out but unfortunately that wasn’t it either.

Well, now it is obsolete anyway, since the M1 has replaced the i7 and I’m just about to slowly rebuild and adapt, which as written with the reduced interfaces is not so easy. Then I had for years an external Sonnet PCI enclosure on the Thunderbold 2 port and when it comes thick, then right. After I disconnected the good piece from the power and tried to reconnect it to the power on the M1, nothing happened. As we always say in our data center, never disconnect devices from the power, then they are broken and that’s what probably happened here. There is a G-Speed Raid5 tower connected to an eSata-Controller, which I can’t use anymore and the tower is also out of support at the manufacturer. There comes joy on :((. Now I’ll get an empty external JBOD-Tower (USB3.1) put the hard drives in there and make a SoftRaid5 out of it to continue to have my third backup of all our photos.

What so a small problem can trigger everything ;).

Unbelievable, after my external Sonnet Thunderbold PCI enclosure broke during the rebuild of my Mac Mini M1, after the described problems, my monitor NEC MultiSync PA271W, which has served very well for many years, just said goodbye in the middle of calibrating and profiling. Completely abruptly no more mains voltage. I think this is called Murphy’s Law :((.

So now I need a new monitor and I decided to buy the BenQ SW270C, which meets the requirements.

At least I have my four hard drives from the G-Speed eS Raid Tower, which hung via eSata on the above-mentioned Sonnet case rescue and move into an external Fantec Tower (USB 3.1) and immediately under the M1 get back to work.

I like BenQ monitors and have 32 inch versions.  The extra real estate is nice if you can afford it.

    Hello Kevin,

I have only ever had EIZO, NEC and one Dell monitor(s) but they have become very expensive nowadays. The BenQ got good reviews on prad (a website I like to consult for monitors) .

The next Eizo AdobeRGB monitor costs over 300 EUR more here in contrast to the BenQ. So I thought I’d give the brand a chance, since I haven’t had one of those yet. In this respect, it is good to hear that you are satisfied with the 32″ device :).

The BenQ monitor is supposed to be delivered on Wednesday. I was always very satisfied with the NEC, as well as with my Eizos and hope that it is the same here with BenQ.

NEC offered me to send in the Multisync for an estimate of €80 to see if it would be worth repairing. I think I’ll do that additive, possibly I gain a second monitor for my Win11 PC, if the repair is not too expensive or have set 80 EUR in the sand ;).

To make matters worse, I now have a problem with C1 (v22/v23) on the new M1 Mac Mini with the catalog that now contains nearly 132,000 photos. I had this problem three years ago with an older version of C1. So this is the second time.

It is suddenly no longer possible to import pictures with my main catalog. After clicking on the button “import all” nothing happens. If I let C1 check the catalog, no error is found.

Three years ago, the only way to fix the problem was to create a new catalog and import the photos from the broken catalog here. The attempt to fix the problem this time in the same way failed after 10h import with about 70% of a Fuji RAW file, which, however, is perfectly fine.

Capture One support, consulted with the problem, advised me against using such large catalogs, and apparently such problems were not entirely unknown.

For me, I now have to think about how to restructure the whole thing? Do I drive everything only by events in sessions or rebuild some smaller catalogs segmented thematically or by years? I would be interested in how the other C1 users here proceed?

The overall search I will in any case only with Excire photo, which also runs with over 200,000 photos completely inconspicuous.

Oliver I have some super large catalogs and they seem to be holding together.  I have a lot more trust in catalogs these days and they are backed up.  I have so many images I catalog my iamges by year.  I always start out in sessions and work on the project in sesions.  After a while when it appears I have nothing more to do in sessions I move the session folder over to the current year folder on my external raid system and add it to the catalog.  So, I always can go right to a session folder and edit in sessions in case of a problem.

I catalog session by year and project.  So I have a number of projects that are multi year catalogs like Antarctitca, Greenland, Svalbard, Gran Canyon and that sort of thing.

It;s strange that your catalogs aren’t being read.  I have been using c123 in beta and now release form and the catalogs were converted and seem to be working.  Still early in the game but I’ll give them some more thorough testing over the coming days and weeks.

Not sure if that helps but it’s my system.
