Here, I let a little light into the dark–where I discovered a lot of noise. Oh well, something to work on for another day. Also I found that the engineer’s head doesn’t “pop” enough if I brighten the train much more than this.MrGoodpixels, Tennessee Backroads Photography

A large print of this could be really great — something about sun and shadow on the valve head add a lot of dimension, or maybe it’s the warm tones against the cool background.

"Let's see what's out there!"Re: EngineerReply #3 on: May 28, 2024 at 2:34 pmThanks Jeremy. I’ll bet that’s vignetting from the very out-of-focus frame of the carriage window I was shooting out of. Once you see it you can’t unsee it. Fixed it and it’s a big improvement.

"Let's see what's out there!"Re: wakeReply #4 on: May 27, 2024 at 1:12 pmOutstanding. Even beyond the geometric aspects, the action of the wake and the mood of the mountains complement each other so well. That said, maybe it can be thought of as one photo with two good croppings.

Jeremy
I hold the shutter open (with manual release cable) for a few seconds and hope there’s lightning during that time, then close it and try again. This only works at twilight or night of course. Never had any luck with lightning triggers.
