Salmon Stream

December 12, 2020

A salmon stream in Goldstream Provincial Park, north of Victoria, BC. We were ahead of the salmon that day by about a month or so, but we did see one large swirl.

NB: Some might reasonably argue that the top of the image and the branches are too dominant, but they’re a vital part of the story. The trees along the bank lend shade to the water and help to keep the temperature down. Too-warm water can be deadly, especially for the little ones. Trees are also a vital part of the hydrology of the area, and the salmon carcasses dragged away from the shore by wildlife provide much-needed nutrients to the trees and other plant life.

I don't think they are too dominant. To me, the image is well balanced and has a great sense of place. Excellent processing, too.
