    Epson p900 Panorama Printing

Thanks Mark, I never knew the limit before, I’ve butted heads against it, I had a long accordion fold book I printed using the roll holder which ended up, infuriatingly, printing all the way but only to stop with half the last page.   I, of course, tried several times…

My design had a long blank lead in to glue down on the hand made hard cover and fold back from.   I fixed my issue by flipping the entire design upside down so the long blank lead in was at the end.

I have used Iridient Developer as my preferred RAW processor for any prints that I print large, I go back and redo using it, it’s excellent for detail.

I’m sticking with C1 23 for now, my perpetual license is still current, I’ll see how it goes. I’m enjoying it with the latest version of Nik by the way, recommended.

I moved from Aperture to LR (briefly) and then was delighted to discover C1. The flexible workspace, tools, all quite sophisticated, I just liked it, from the interface to the end results.

It’s not perfect though.  There’s tools that do better jobs at importing, tagging etc (Photomechanic, now with a catalog feature), there’s tools with arguably equal sophistication in terms of editing (DXO+Nik), there’s tools which can process RAWs better (Iridient Developer), and pretty well every other tool handles printing better (I’ve taken to just using the bundled Epson Print Tool).     And when it comes down to it you can do everything in ACR and PS.

There’s just no other tool that handles all the aspects so pleasingly in a workspace you can spread over three monitors just as you like it.  I’ve hundreds of thousands of images in Sessions, the thought of shifting to something new just is so daunting.   I’ve decided given that I’ve got a C1 23 perpetual license, I am going to just sit on it and test out other options and workflows over the coming year.  See what happens.   The team in there must be torn over this, it’s no way to treat customers who have been with you for decades.

I remember the Archimedes.  Damn thing turned on like a light bulb compared to everything else at the time.

I own a 27″ 2019 iMac i9 with 48Gb Ram with 2Tb SSD on board and 4Tb SSD external for working files, the photography all goes on a RAID.  Planning on keeping this machine too.  You get to pick a graphics card for one thing, I chose the Pro Vega 48.  Runs really well, Capture One handles 100 megapixel files with no issues.

But yeah, it cost about 5000 euro.

It’s not a time to pick up a pro Mac, if you can wait, I’d wait and suffer it out for a while.  The year needs to play out, there’ll be clarity as it goes on, WWDC in June should answer a few things but my bet is that you won’t have an M2 (or whatever) to consider till the end of the year.
