One thing that caught my eye in this segment is the ULANZI ST-14 tripod mount. I have been looking for the best Arca-Swiss compatible mount for iPhone for long exposures and panos. I would have bought the solution from Really Right Stuff, but it has been back ordered for at least a year. In my research, I found a newer model by the same company, the Ulanzi ST-28. It utilizes MagSafe rather than clamps and screws. Just got it today, and it looks like it will fit the bill. It requires a ball head on the tripod, where the ST-14 has a ball head on the mount. But the ST-28 is simple, elegant and light (not to mention $200 cheaper that RRS).

in reply to: Tin Type WorkFlow #54087Re: Tin Type WorkFlowReply #1 on: May 3, 2022 at 9:24 amI too have always been confused by the three options offered when opening a Lightroom file in Photoshop. So this is a real eye-opener, and improves my workflow greatly. Thanks Jeff!
in reply to: Grain Layer #53872Re: Grain LayerReply #2 on: April 29, 2022 at 11:30 amWhen I magnify the grain layer to pixel level, I see variations in tone, but these disappear at normal viewing resolution. So I will try increasing the noise level to amplify the effect.
By conflating concepts, I take it to mean that the overlay grain layer cannot be painted for effect like the sculpting layer.
in reply to: Fake Tintypes – just more Pixelography #52000Re: Fake Tintypes – just more PixelographyReply #3 on: April 11, 2022 at 6:54 amI bought the Tintype app a few years ago, and liked it a lot. But there is but a single plate style available, which is really limiting. I could easily recognize any image processed in the app by the distinctive grunge pattern.
So my question for Jeff is why use the app as a first step? You have all those wonderful textures to choose from, and end up adding more anyway.
in reply to: Photo Tins #45627Re: Photo TinsReply #4 on: November 18, 2021 at 12:38 amHi Kevin,
After reading your workflow, I have to assume that you have printed all these images before, and done a series of proofs to tweak the file so that the printed image is a suitable match for what you see on the screen. I guess you would do your proof prints on paper other than the cards, to preserve these for the finish prints for the project.
Re: New Article By Michael Durr – Aluminyze Metal PrintsReply #5 on: July 6, 2020 at 6:07 amI took a look at the Aluminyze site. It appears that they do not provide a profile for their print process. The site notes that someone at the shop will optimize the file prior to printing. Wonder how this works in relation to fidelity to the original intent and wishes of the client.
Re: PasswordsReply #6 on: March 7, 2020 at 7:24 pmLooking back today, I regret that my post came off a little harsh, and I am sorry. I know everyone on the site is doing their best to grow the forum, and I will do what I can to help. Sometimes technology shortcomings can be a bit exasperating. If bringing up the password issue results in improvement, then all will benefit.

in reply to: SONY A7RIV Pushed To The Limit #17226Re: SONY A7RIV Pushed To The LimitReply #7 on: March 6, 2020 at 10:45 pmI too love my Sony GM 100-400. I adopted one of your techniques which you shared a few months ago and reiterated here: Hand held with high shutter speed and auto iso. The method works great, and is much faster and more spontaneous than a tripod based technique.

It seems I have missed the new article announcements over the past 6 months. There have been times, including today, when I had something to say about an article.
Re: Don’t Leave Home Without It – SanDisk Extreme 2TB USB SSDReply #9 on: September 6, 2019 at 8:53 amNow, I measure in Terabytes.
Get ready for Petabyte, which comes after Terabyte! Then Exabyte, Zettabyte, and Yottabyte.
