I understand the desire to sometimes examine/measure things yourself, but why not use photons to photos?

Also, is this a new box of paper?

If you’re sure the media and paper profile are good then I think as Kevin said you might be printing on the back of the paper

When I get to the studio tomorrow, I’ll look first to see if a Baryta II shows up in EPL. Since I have to speak to DAno anyway, I’ll ask him about this.  Like Bud, as many of you know I use IP.  I have a box of paper, so I’ll give it a shot in the next few days and see what happens.

    Hi Kevin,

Although on a different printer to the OP it would be interesting to compare prints with the Mk II ICC profile vs the Mk I (maybe against Imageprint as well)

    Thx

This doesn’t help you of course but you are not alone.  I have the P8000 and there is no profile for it.  Mark mentions in his article that there is no profile for the P5000 either.  Not really sure why Epson are ignoring this paper for “older” printers (though the P8000 and P5000 are still available).

I don’t know why Adobe prefer less NR than C1 as their default but you can change the default settings (on ay slider) in Preferences – Preset >> Global (then preset you created)  To change images already imported create a different preset with JUST the NR slider changes you prefer and apply that to all images.  I believe sharpening default effects are going to be different as well, at least they used to be when I used both C1 and LR.

I don’t get the delay you mention (and I don’t have Leica files) but I spend no time in the Library after I’ve chosen the folder(s) I want to work on in the Library.  Once in Develop I have a 2nd screen set up as a grid in the Develop mode and/or I use the Filmstrip to move from image to image.

For those of you considering returning to a Lightroom Classic (LrC) workflow, let me mention the DXO Pure Raw 2 Plug-in for LrC.  I’m currently testing it and so far (tested with Fuji raf for X and GFX, and Nikon Z9 and Z7II) it is an amazing raw conversion tool, MUCH superior to LrC’s default demoasicaing (or anything else I’ve ever seen or used).   A lot of software add ons, plug ins I’ve tested are more “just different” than they are “actually better.”  This is the exception.

Check it out.  You won’t be sorry.  No affiliation, etc., with DXO – yadda, yadda…

Rand, could you put up several files demonstrating in what ways DxO does a better job than LrC? In so doing, let us beware that final image quality goes beyond the first stage of demosaicing the raw data. This first stage is designed by the software developers according to their view of what initial rendition is likely to please users the most. The key thing is what’s required, efficient and possible for getting the photo from that start point to finish according to the user’s taste. To my mind anyhow, that’s the basis on which assessments of raw conversion software should be made.

Mark (and others as interested) . . .

Per Mark’s request, here’s a download link to a zipped folders with several GFX 100 files, exported as 16 bit, tiff, uncompressed, in ProPhoto RGB that compare default Lightroom processing as it is “on import” and that same raw file processed with DXO Pure Raw 2 via their Deep Prime method and using their lens correction and sharpening:

NOTE: This website (expletives deleted) won’t let me post the link…. I sent it to Mark privately.  Anyone else interested, PM me and I can email a link.

As you can imagine, these are large files.

    Rand

Hi Rand, can you just post the link in text format with the word “dot” replacing the actual “.” in the link?

    Thx

    Mike

It seems that Autosynch would work.  And very quickly as long as you select all images (ie 80000).  The key is to ONLY change the panel switches (ie turning them from off to on).  Auto synch will then change the position of the switch on all files but NOT the settings from each panel (ie the value of any of the sliders you have used for your image edit).

    I tested this on 3 images all of which had different editing;

I turned the panel switches off on all of them one by one.
I then selected all 3 and turned on Autosynch.
I then moved the panel switches back to the ON position and the other 2 images updated so that the switches turned back on.
The rest of the editing remained the same (ie different in each image).

It’s pretty easy to test this yourself on a few images to verify it works before changing the whole db.  You could also perhaps do it on a per-gallery basis if you are still worried.

It’s just very important not to make any other changes while Autosynch is on.

I have never used Autosynch but I know that it will copy all settings from the source to all images selected.  This is hardly what you want if you have made image by image edits.

That is interesting.  I’ve bookmarked it … I may find it useful at some point

Well good to hear that you have partial success.  In the mean time you only really need to unlock your older images as you need to work on them, and then you have a 1-click solution.  Certainly not ideal but perhaps acceptable if you cannot find a way to edit the db.

Also perhaps now that you know the root cause and have a good description it may be worth posting on the Adobe forum again, including a link to the discussion which describes Multiple Settings.

    Good luck!

Good to know that fixes it on a single file but difficult to know how to fix across the catalog.  I tried to make a Preset and it did not work.

I think it is worth to try with LR on another machine to see if the same problem carries over.  Maybe also with LR 11.0 before 12.

Fresh minds in the morning …
