For the past ten years or so, image quality improvements have been gradual because the print quality from these machines had become so high that revolutionary improvements were no longer in the cards. That remains the case today. We will be looking systematically at the question of print quality improvement from these new models as soon as the correct opportunity arises – in fact it has been partly underway but nowhere near ready to publish anything. That said, the key emphasis of these new models are the operational improvements, of which there are a fair number, most importantly, improved user accessibility to some maintenance functions, higher print speeds and the like – the list is available from Epson’s brochures.
As for prices coming down systematically, I wouldn’t count on it. When you think of everything that’s involved on the cost side and the challenges to the printing market on the demand side, this will most likely never develop into the kind of low cost high volume business that allows substantial and sustained price drops. We’ll likely be able to take advantage of the occasional promotional specials they put on, but I’m not holding my breath for a revolution in professional printer pricing.

If this gets through… I made a post in response to Jim K’s post re inks. It has an image file showing ink descriptions. It disappeared into cyber limbo. When I tried to “re post” it, I got a “you already said that” error message. “After that” Mark’s post appeared. Something is still wonky w/ the posting.

About twice as many. Do you still need a foot or so room on either end to access the waste ink collectors?
The ink waste tanks are, indeed accessed from the rear “sides” of the printer. As they are on wheels, you could easily roll the printer forward a bit to access them. Since this is an infrequent operation, I don’t think this poses much of a problem.
As to inks…
You’ll see that the violet ink has been added as an “in addition” to Light Gray. In the past the “Designer” editions of the printers used violet, and the Standard editions used the Light Gray (nee Light Light Black). The color gamut of this printer is larger than previous models.Rand
