    Hi Mark

Along with many others I congratulate you on your super human effort producing  the detailed review of the P900 …. WoW!.. I will be keeping that as a PDF alongside Epson’s Manual

If I may I have a quick question… regarding Epson print driver when setting up  to print on Canson Platine Fibre Rag..or any third party Platine paper…

Most manufactures recommend driver media setting to be “Epson Premium Luster”….. but now that the Epson driver actually contains a listing for “Legacy Platine”… can I assume thats its safe to use that one in place of  “Premium Luster”?  Do they both do the same thing or not?

    Cheers

    George

Thanks, that seems to be postponed, my R3000 miraculously works again after 5 years of being switched off. It only took 4 cleaning cycles. Now I am amazed! 🙂

Hi George, glad you enjoyed the review and found it useful.

Truth be told, the characteristics of a number of these papers, while they all differ a bit in one respect or another, are similar enough that one has discretion in the choice of Media Type for very similar paper. But the safest bet is that the Media Type used to create the profile for that paper should be the same Media Type that you select when printing with that profile. So if you are using an OEM profile and they recommend a particular Media Type for printing with their profile, it means that’s the Media Type they used for creating the profile, so it’s probably best to just use it. But it only costs you a piece of paper to experiment by changing the Media Type, then look to see if you notice any difference at all, and if you do, just go on using the one that you think does the beat job for your photos.

    Ha…..

I’m guilty… In my quest to become a Poor Man Master Printer I’ve been maybe to cautious trying to save the good paper. I see the light… waste a few sheets now and save in the long run… Thanks…

I’ve had my P900 a few weeks longer than you and like you my light grey cartridge was the first to go but what really surprised me was having to replace the $20.00 maintance cartridge already? I know you’ve run a lot more paper than I .. Did you have to replace yours as well?

    Any idea why so soon?…

    Cheers,

    George

Yes, the maintenance tank is pretty much filled with initial charge-up so it needs to be replaced early-on. Nothing unusual about that. You’ll find related information in the article.

This is an Olympian effort with a sterling result, a Mark for others to emulate.

I am now eager to junk my perfectly fine p800 for a p900. Fortunately, my wife says NO!!!!!!!!!!

    Best Regards,

    Dale

    Mark,

You have truly set the standard in printer reviews. However, you have outdone yourself with the P900 review. For those of us who are visually biased, (pun intended) could you create an accompaning video? (Yes, we are never satisfied.) By the way, Epson should pay you to have this article included with the purchase of the P900.

    Hi Kenneth,

Thanks, much appreciated. The review took the path that my curiosity led it down as I experimented with and evaluated the new features this model offers, and it ended-up being more than I had expected when I started. Epson was supportive when needed and as appropriate. As you most likely know, to assure public confidence in the objectivity of the reviews, the companies do not pay reviewers, and once it is in the public domain the website sets the terms of use, and you know what that means. So there we are. But I hear you and appreciate what you mean.

Kevin and I have in the past discussed the idea of doing some video, but then COVID-19 came along pretty much canning that idea, as it would require the videographer and I to be not very distanced sharing the same indoor space. So such ventures will have to wait until it’s safe.
