    Lr 9.1 Print presets bug

This is hypothetical of course until proven, but if the problem really is between Apple and Canon, there is precious little Adobe can do about it.

Actually you are correct! I dug deeper and this is an issue with the Canon presets under Catalina.

I hereby remove all blame from Adobe on this issue. 🙂

More testing… The ‘sticky’ wrong printer preset only occurs in Adobe apps – Lr, PS. When printing from TextEtdit, Canon’s DPP4 all is well. Hmm!

Sticky-ness has to be produced by the user produced and saved print template not via the driver. Have you tried making a new, from scratch print template in LR with ALL settings?

Yes. This is the way Adobe deals wit the Canon driver presets. It retains in some script some default settings and doe snot read teh actual printer driver preset. DPP4, TextEdit, etc. do it correctly…

Well there is the ability in the Epson drivers for presets to configure it in other applications but they should never be used within LR. The Epson drop down menu must not be so set. Perhaps that’s the case with Canon but not having one, can’t say.

I don’t understand what you are saying here Andrew. It is not only possible, but prudent to preserve consistency in a LR workflow to use custom presets in the Epson driver when printing from LR. And if you make a User Template in LR’s print module, it also preserves the Epson driver settings that are active at the time the Template is made (cf. Martin’s LR CC book, “Note” on page 474, and onward). Or do you mean something else I missed?

What I’m saying Mark is have LR set like this with respect to the Epson driver:

There are very few people outside those three companies who would know for sure what’s going on one way or another – unless you have the ability to unpack the three applications . It could be that Canon and/or Apple have failed to take into account some aspect of the Adobe applications which Adobe may have advised them of during the Catalina development and testing phase, or it could be that the Adobe applications have not been sufficiently tested and adapted for how Canon drivers work in Catalina. But we don’t need to know this causality – it is enough that it has been raised, and if the three of them know about it the responsible party should fix it, if there is anything any of them need to fix.

Andrew, What you are showing is how the Epson driver is set; that menu in your illustration is from the Mac Version of the Epson driver. Do you really want it set that way? By leaving it at “Default” settings, you won’t necessarily have the correct Media Type or desired print quality dialed in relative to the paper/profile you are using. The settings in the Printer Settings menu of the Epson driver must cohere with the paper/printer profile you select in the LR print module, bottom panel, otherwise you could have a mess, no? And the best way of making sure they are sticky every time you want to print with the same paper, is to make a Preset for that paper in the Epson driver. My understanding, and highly successful practice; are we saying anything different?

Mark, it’s aways correct because the print template makes it correct. Kinda my point ?
