Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Apple Computer and Epson are engaged with the issue and talking to each other. I have provided extensive log files to both that are under analysis. It isn’t clear yet from these logs exactly what is causing this issue. There is more work to be done, so no resolution yet. As soon as there is a breakthrough I shall notify the community.

Re: Filter Failed issueReply #5 on: January 3, 2021 at 10:43 amI have a minor update.
To remind, I have two systems set-up. (1) MacPro connected to an Epson SC-P900 now being tested and reviewed, and (2) a MacBook Pro connected to an SC-P5000. Fortunately, the MacPro/P900 hook-up has been working fine and keeping fingers crossed, except when typing, eating or brushing my teeth, etc. that it holds up. The MacBookPro/P5000 hook-up was working until it failed a few weeks ago (Filter Failure). I left it alone for a couple of weeks but needed to run some ink and paper through it for maintenance so I had to tackle it. I started it up today, let it auto-clean, and tried to make a print. It “filter-failed”. So I implemented Andrew’s “Epson Enema”. This enema solved that problem, but I know from experience that this is temporary. However, at least for the time being I have that route to printing re-established, so I can revert to sending files from the desktop to the laptop for printing with the P5000. I shall not do this for the time being with the MacPro because I want to leave well enough alone with the Sc-P900 until I finish testing it. In case it may be useful to other readers, I recommend using the Epson Enema when all else fails to cure the problem. The steps, from a previous post of Andrew’s are as follows:
1. Delete all Epson printers from System>Preferences>Print and Fax.
2. Go to HDx (system drive)>Library>Printers and trash the whole Epson folder.
3. Trash the LFP Remote Panel if installed.
4. Download the correct Epson printer driver from the Epson website, install it, and re-add the printer in System>Preferences>Print and Fax.
More permanent solutions still to come – let us all hope. I’m in contact with several companies on it.
Mark
This is what I have had to do and it works except the big problem is iIhave a half dozen printers.
When I delete them all I have to go through the process of downloading the drivers for each and every one which is a very lengthy process to add all 6.
To add the 9900 and 3880 are the only ones I get the filter fail for. The P8000, F570,P800, 1430 and z3200 it has never happened.

Printmaking Photo Mounting & Framing For The Artisan and Photographic CommunitiesRe: Filter Failed issueReply #6 on: January 3, 2021 at 11:43 amFurther last week I discovered that Epson has issued a driver update for the SC-P5000 printer. On December 14th it issued driver number v10.91. I deleted the printer from Apple>Preferences>Printers and Scanners. Then I downloaded and installed v10.91, and re-added the SC-P5000 printer, Series driver. I have used the printer from my desktop in the normal way it is supposed to work several times since I installed the new driver and so far so good. There have been no Filter Failed error messages. Previous experience tells me it is not predictable how long it will hold; however, if the status changes I shall report back here. The only real fix is a permanent one, and it will take time to tell whether it is now truly resolved. I don’t have current first-hand experience for other printer models, except for the SC-P900 which so far is performing normally.

Re: Filter Failed issueReply #7 on: January 5, 2021 at 11:16 amI am pleased to report that as the result of an intensive effort undertaken between printing system engineers at Epson and Apple, the filter failed problem is now understood and resolved – at least in the most recent Epson driver up-date (v10.91) for the SC-P5000 printer. I assume that if there are other models for which the same fix would be valid, it would be implemented in a driver update for them as well, so if you are experiencing this problem, please check with the Epson Support page for your printer model and make sure that you have installed the latest driver. v10.91 was issued in mid-December and I have been testing it for the past week and a bit. So far so good. We are hoping that whatever they did stands the test of time. I extend thanks to both companies for their initiative and collaboration in getting this major problem fixed.

Thanks Kevin. I too was very pleased with how Apple and Epson took up the issue in a very forthcoming manner and collaborated on fixing it.

Re: Filter Failed issueReply #10 on: January 11, 2021 at 4:39 pmHi,
I’m joining the discussion having been pointed here by kind members of the EpsonWideFormat group.io.A client of mine has reported the same Filter Failed issue on a P20000 (macOS Mojave) – I’ve performed (happily via TeamViewer due to the pandemic) a full reset of the System printers and a fresh install of the v10.91 driver from Epson (December 14, 2020). Alas, the problem persists – we’re in touch with Epson, and waiting for their feedback.
In his case, a very large file (~64×82 inches a.k.a. ~155×210 cm @300ppi a.k.a. ~18Kx25K px @16bit) can’t be printed – everything goes fine until the 1.5m mark (~60 inches) and then the Filter failed error appears. Interestingly, the printable length seems to depend on the amount of data passing through, e.g. same file:
~64×82″ @300ppi @16bit = 60″ printed, then failure
~64×82″ @240ppi @8bit = 78″ printed, then failure
~64×82″ @200ppi @8bit = 82″ printed, red wineIn the past, I’ve never been able to print similarly sized files @300 @16bit with the P20000 (it failed with no errors, interrupting and printing the last ~8″ of the image over and over), but a relatively harmless downsize of the bit depth 16->8 solved the problem. Now it seems that the bandwidth is way narrower.
I’m told that the went through ~1.5 rolls of Hahnemuhle Baryta 64″ today, so I guess the wine was well deserved. I’ll keep you posted if I’ve news.
Kind regards,
Davide Barranca
Re: Filter Failed issueReply #11 on: January 11, 2021 at 4:51 pmHi Davide, interesting – it was supposed to have been solved, and for me printing still works, but I am not sending that much data to the printer; it would seem to be in your case that file size is perhaps a relevant factor. As you may know, the printing process passes through a number of filters at different stages along the way and that Filter Failed message is very generic. I hope the Epson Support people asked for various error log files that would help nail where the issue is coming from.
